Harry Potter Theme Park to Open
A billion dollar theme park dedicated to Harry Potter is scheduled to open in the US in late 2009.
The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter will offer everyone a one of a
kind chance to experience the world of Hogsmeade and Hogwart's School,
say planners.
Author JK Rowling says she's thrilled with the new project.
"The plans I've seen look incredibly exciting," she says. "And I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed."
The park is a joint venture between Warner Brothers Entertainment and Universal Orlando
Resort, and will be situated at the existing Unversal theme park.

Deathly Hallows being printed in total darkness?
This is an operation I would like to see. How does one print a book in total darkness? I hope those workers are getting hazard pay!
The seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series is apparently being printed in "total darkness" in a bid to avoid leaks about the novel's plot.According to reports security is so tight for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that German workers at the GGP print factory in the small town of Poessneck are being forced to work in pitch black conditions so that they cannot read any of the books. The Cold War-style security measures follow high-profile leaks of information in the run-up to the publication of the previous three books.Other failsafe schemes in place see workers' bags and cars searched as they arrive and leave, while GGP employees have already been told they will be sacked if they are found to have smuggled copies out or placed bets on the novel's ending.Harry Potter author JK Rowling has already revealed that one, possible two or three, major characters will die in the final literary instalment of her best-selling series. The book comes out on July 21st, a week after the fifth movie adaptation The Order of the Phoenix goes on general release in the UK.Well, if it prevents spoilers from being leaked I guess it's alright, though I wouldn't fancy working in that printing house right now, I'll say that much.

Well, if there was any doubt that the would-be summer blockbuster
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will not be a total dud, I think this lets the fans know which way it will be going:
When Grindhouse failed at the box office, Hollywood executives began to blame the film’s three hour running time. Rumors began to circulate that Warner Bros had ordered director David Yates to cut the running time of Harry Potter and The Order of Phoenix, so that audiences won’t be frightened away.Well now we have official confirmation that the movie will have a running time of 138 minutes and 4 seconds (which is 2 hours, 18 minutes and 4 seconds for those of you who are too lazy to do the math). The longest book in the series has become a two hour movie? Dud gets my vote. Well, at least the movies will be consistently bad anyway. How shocking it would be if one of the movies actually turned out to be a good representation of such an awesome story!

Rowling to give midnight reading of final book
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will mark the release of the final
book in the hugely popular series by giving a midnight reading and
signing in London.
About 1,700 lucky fans in Britain and Ireland will win a chance to
have Rowling sign a copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The
event will take place at the Natural History Museum July 21, the day
the book is released.
The first 500 randomly selected winners will also be invited to
attend the midnight reading. Timed tickets will be issued for the
subsequent book signing, which is expected to last until dawn. All the
winners will receive a free copy of the book.
Seven U.S. residents can enter to win round-trip tickets to London and hotel accommodations to participate in the reading.
Harry Potter Will Appear on U.K. Royal Mail Stamps
Harry Potter, the popular schoolboy
wizard in a series of novels by U.K. author J.K. Rowling, will
appear on a set of stamps issued by the Royal Mail.
The stamps will be released on July 17, the Royal Mail said
in a statement on its Web site today. ``Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows,'' the seventh and final book in the series,
hits bookstores four days later on July 21.
Rowling appealed to fans not to spread rumors about the
wizard's fate before the book's release in a statement posted on
her Web site.

As you can see, the front page of SonOfaBludger.net got a facelift today thanks to the gorgeous cover art of Mary GrandPré. Her covers just get better and better and we at SoB.net greatly appreciate what she does. If you'd like to learn more about her or see some of her other art, check out her

An old "rumor" making the rounds again...
I read an article today about how J.K. Rowling plans to write an eighth Harry Potter book. Then I read another about how there will be a spin-off to the Harry Potter series. Both articles claimed to have taken this information from J.K. Rowling's site. Both articles made a false claim. This article sums up where the claim is coming from:
British Author JK Rowling has revealed plans to write another 'Harry Potter'
book.
The seventh novel - 'The Deathly Hollows,' due out in the summer - will
bring the young wizard's adventures to an end, but Rowling has said she
might write an eighth for charity.
The 41-year-old writer wrote on her website, "I might do an eighth book for
charity - a kind of encyclopedia of the world, so that I could use all the
extra material that's not in the books."
This is very old news, something J.K. Rowling said at least a year ago, if not years ago. Don't get your hopes up!
J.K. Rowling updated her diary today:
MAY 14th
A couple of weeks ago (April 28th, if you want to go and search the archive) the Potter fansite The Leaky Cauldron posted an editorial on potential spoilers for "Deathly Hallows". It made me laugh, but I was also incredibly moved and grateful.
We're a little under three months away, now, and the first distant rumblings of the weirdness that usually precedes a Harry Potter publication can be heard on the horizon. The Leaky Cauldron's early mission statement on spoilers (ie, don't, and we're not putting them up if you do) is deeply appreciated by yours truly.
I add my own plea to Melissa's for one reason, and one only: I want the readers who have, in many instances, grown up with Harry, to embark on the last adventure they will share with him without knowing where they are they going.
Some, perhaps, will read this and take the view that all publicity is good publicity, that spoilers are part of hype, and that I am trying to protect sales rather than my readership. However, spoilers won't stop people buying the book, they never have - all it will do is diminish their pleasure in the book.
There will always be sad individuals who get their kicks from ruining other people's fun, but while sites like Leaky take such an active stance against them, we may yet win. Even if the biggest secret gets out - even if somebody discovers the Giant Squid is actually the world's largest Animagus, which rises from the lake at the eleventh hour, transforms into Godric Gryffindor and... well, I wouldn't like to spoil it.

Are Alecto and Amycus (the two sibling Death Eaters) the Carrows mentioned by Snape in Spinner’s End?
Yes, they are.
What houses were Tonks and Myrtle in?
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw respectively.
What is Draco Malfoy’s Patronus?
As of the end of Half-Blood Prince, he has no idea how to produce one, so nobody knows. You must remember that the ability to produce a Patronus demonstrates an advanced level of magic not routinely taught to young Hogwarts students (hence the surprise of the prospective members of Dumbledore’s Army when they find out that Harry can make a Patronus).
We learned in book six that Merope Gaunt staggered into the orphanage of New Year’s Eve and gave birth to Tom Riddle ‘within the hour’. Was Voldemort born on December 31st or January 1st?
He was born on December 31st.
What are the properties of Draco’s wand? Can we assume that its wood is hawthorn, as per the chart on your site?
Interestingly (to me) I decided that Draco had a hawthorn wand independently of the chart. So yes, it is hawthorn, and by a bizarre coincidence I assigned him that wood, as I assigned Harry holly, without realising it was the ‘right’ one. Spooky... but for various reasons hawthorn seems to suit Draco as holly suits Harry.
